Prima BAP – November 2013
This month for the Prima BAP (Build-a-Page) I have used some photographs Milton took of Quentin and I at Tannum Sands earlier this year. We were actually discussing how proud we were of our children when the photographs were taken, which led to my journaling about “The Path”.
My journalling reads: “We have always walked the PATH of parenting as a loving and united team, and we always will.”
Right now a lot of the blood, sweat and tears associated with this united PATH are paying off as Milton is turning 16 and finishing Year 10 (with considerable improvement), Naomi-Jon has turned 13 and is finishing Year 7, and Noah turns a few corners with his development and social understanding. Our children are also becoming more united in their focus and the way they support each other, which is a truly wonderful thing to witness as parents.
Anyways enough of that, now onto some detailed shots of my layout and what I did to my background.
I used a lot of water with the Lindy’s Stamp Gang mists (Shabby Turbine Teal, Clam Bake Beige, Time Travel Teal) to achieve the washy look, and yes I warped the background by heat drying it. I wanted to hold the colour where it was, hence the need for heat. I also made sure the background was completely dry before flicking the dots of red mist (Queen of Hearts Red), so it wouldn’t bleed.
The gold splatters are the Tim Holtz Distress Stain (Tarnished Brass) banged onto the background with some force, but not so much as to break anything. After the stain was dry I stamped the new Prima Stitched Circle stamp around each splat with Versafine (Onyx Black) ink for detail.
The beads are actually “Beadazzles” that I purchased in 2002 in a Scrapbooking Store in Cairns, that I am pretty sure closed at least 8 years ago. I scribbled some Dimensional Magic on the background where I wanted the Beadazzles, and then poured them on – resulting in a bit of a mess on my desk.
Once I had finished my layout I asked Noah what was his favourite bit, and he said “Mummy and Daddy holding hands on the beach”, then he gave me a kiss. This was one of those moments that show me that we are on the right “PATH”.
