Couture Creations DT Reveal | Bee Happy Butterfly Garden Mixed Media Canvas

Hi and welcome to my post today where I have created for you a fun Mixed Media Canvas using Butterfly Garden Chipboard, Hot Foiling and a soft Watercolour background. I have used a favourite photograph of Amelia-Ann in her ‘Happy Place’ – the Garden – feeding her chickens and wearing ‘Play Clothes’. What more could a 4-year-old want?

I started by applying a rough and patchy coat of Anna Griffin Embossing Paste all over the background and sides of the canvas. After this, I used a paintbrush, Mists and lots of water to create a multicoloured Watercolour background. I find that having a clean painting cloth (a cloth nappy actually) on hand helps to mop up any areas that end up too dark for my liking.  The Embossing Paste doesn’t have to be dry before you add the colour however it all needs to be thoroughly dry before you can adhere anything to it.

To foil the Bee Happy sentiment with both Gold and Cyan I placed the foil carefully where I needed it to be. This was quite fiddly getting the bees legs the right colour and making sure that the title was all covered. The effort was worth it as the results speak for themselves.

I added a touch of glitter and shine to the Bee wings by coating them with Dimensional Magic before sprinkling them with fine white glitter. This needs to be left to dry for a while as it tends to want to slide off the foiling.

I finally finished embellishing the bees by detailing their bodies and legs with a watersoluble pencil (Stabilo ALL) and then activating it with a tiny amount of water. This gives detail without overtaking the softness I wanted with my canvas.  

I used a palette knife and Matte Texture Paste to adhere all of the elements to the canvas including the glitter cardstock, chipboard, gauze and flowers. I find that the Matte Texture Paste has a super strong hold and gives projects like this longevity and dimension.
